SUBMITTING POEMS

(FOR THE 2023 ANNUAL SAVANT POETRY ANTHOLOGY)

Savant Books and Publications is seeking outstanding poems for inclusion in its Annual Poetry Anthology.
The call for the 2023 Savant Poetry Anthology is open.

Savant Books and Publications invites interested poets to submit up to five (5) poems, each poem in the form of a Savant Poetry Submission Package (PSP).

A.  READ THESE SAVANT FAQs FIRST:

1. Savant Books and Publications (SBAP) will consider only previously unpublished poems up to 200 words/100 lines in length (whichever is less), each poem in the form of a complete Poetry Submission Package (MSP). SBAP does not accept or read partial PSP's, partial works, or works-in-progress. Savant will publish on or about April (National Poetry Month) of the next calendar year a softcover, perfect-bound anthology followed in one year by an eBook version. We strongly prefer poetry works that broaden a reader's point-of-view. There are no "themes;" however, we do not publish works that contain or involve gratuitous sex or violence. Illustrations and other visual devices are not allowed.

2. Submission is free. Savant does not charge poets any fees for submission, reading, copyright, ISBN, bar codes, editing, proofing, proofreading, press release(s) or marketing and publicity. On the other hand, by submitting a work for publication, the poet agrees, if one or more poems are accepted for publication in the anthology, to purchase ten (10) copies of the anthology at author/wholesale cost (50% off the suggested retail price; a typical suggested retail price of our poetry anthologies is $US 10.95 per book - typical author/wholesale cost is $5.50 per book). This is to begin (1) work title and poet name recognition; (2) the process of developing a critical readership and reviewer mass; and (3) to create a mechanism for poets to earn income by selling their wholesale copies, unsigned or signed/dedicated, at or near Suggested Retail Price at appearances and readings.

3. Savant Books and Publications does not pay royalties or issue complementary copies to contributors for anthology sales (see #2 above regarding opportunities for contributors to receive income).

4. The Annual Savant Poetry Anthology series was created by and for poets to introduce new and established poets, poets who have or may also be writing or authoring prose books, and support the appreciation of poetry month worldwide.

5. SBAP assigns an award-winning poet to act as the Edition Editor for each of two years' volumes. The Edition Editor makes all selection decisions, and his/her decisions are final.

6. If one or more of a poet's works are accepted for publication, Savant will provide, at no charge, editing, layup, polishing, cover-design, proofing, publicity, marketing, purchase and fulfillment. In return, we expect Savant poets to take a strong, proactive role in publicizing their pen name and the anthology title, as well as assist in publicizing, marketing and selling the work. This includes (1) doing regular emailings (we tell you when and how), (2) participating in Savant chats (see "chat" tab above), (3) maintaining a poet website hopefully with a blog, as well as (4) hosting a local book release party and (5) doing regular public readings and appearances. If you don't plan to become a public figure, don't submit a PSP!

7. SBAP offers poet's an income path by allowing purchase of the anthology in lots of ten (10) books at 50% off the Suggested Retail Price for personal use, sales at appearances, readings, author/poet parties and book-signings as well as consignment at local bookstores. This price includes free book-rate shipping anywhere within the USA including Hawaii and Alaska. Books must be ordered from the Savant Books and Publications website, selecting the 10 copies option.

8. SBAP publications including our poetry anthologies are listed on and available for purchase at Savant Bookstores, Amazon.com, Kindle, affiliated and feeder online book sales channels, as well as at outstanding independent bookstores throughout the world.  SBAP books are distributed worldwide through Savant Distribution, Amazon Extended Distribution, Ingram and numerous sub-distributors.

9.  SBAP is headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, and is a U. S. publisher.  Our target readers are well educated, English language readers who enjoy quality literature and expect a "good read." All agreements and contracts are subject to the tax laws of the United States of America.
