WHERE IS PUBLISHING GOING?

Posted by Daniel S. on Saturday, October 29, 2016, In : Publishing

As the owner of a small but well-established publishing house producing enduring literary works, I'm often asked where I think the publishing industry is ultimately headed. Twenty years ago that question would have been greeted with a quixotic lilt of the head. Today it elicits mainly a puzzled half-frown.

For the past ten or more years, publishing has experienced one major upheaval after another. In the USA, first came the demise of several major bookseller chains, and the gradual repurpos...

INTRODUCING SAVANT EDITOR MOMILANI AWANA

Posted by Daniel S. on Monday, November 17, 2014, In : Welcome
My passion for writing was fueled in no small part by the sheer volume of books I consumed from an early age. In retrospect, I probably consumed those books because I suffered from a dreadful case of then-undiagnosed myopia and found the written word to be my best means of “seeing” the world around me. Despite my literal, and perhaps figurative, shortsightedness, I won a few of statewide writing competitions with stories that tended to highlight my rebellious yet-sympathetic nature—stor...

Savant Produces First CD Recording

Posted by Daniel S. on Friday, September 9, 2011, In : major events
It seemed inevitable to me that Savant Books and Publications would eventually expand into the CD (music and audiobook) and DVD areas. Now it's happening. With the release of R. Page Kaufman's contemporary trombone jazz CD entitled TROPIC OF CALIFORNIA (CD), a musical companion to his multi-award winning book TROPIC OF CALIFORNIA - THE STRAINS OF STRAUSS (Savant 2008), Savant Books and Publications enters a new era.

Congratulations, R. Page Kaufman and thank you for pioneering in the new, exp...

Savant Second Year Heavyweight

Posted by Daniel S. on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, In : Welcome
Savant Books celebrates the beginning of second year with the release of two books: Daniel S. Janik's children's work, "A Whale's Tale" and R. Page Kaufman's comic tongue-in-cheek L.A. romance "Tropic of California."  The former is a delightful story of a juvenile humpback whale as told by his childhood sweetheart complete with 20 illustrations.  "A Whale's Tale" is the first in the Savant "Color-Me-Please" line.  The later is hands-down, one of the most entertaining, hippest, modern day roma...
