SUBMITTING AUDIO FILES
(FOR A CD)

A.  READ THESE SAVANT FAQs FIRST:

1. Savant Books and Publications (SBAP) will consider only previously unpublished audio works consisting of
uncompressed AIFF (44.1 KHz, 16- bit, 2-channel stereo) files, the total of 75 minutes playing time or less in the form of a complete CD Submission Package (CSP). SBAP does not accept or evaluate previously published CDs, partial CSP's, or works-in-progress. Savant publishes standard CDs with full-color artwork printed onto the disc face packaged in clear, cellophane-type plastic over-wrapped ("crystal") cases including full-bleed audio CD covers and double-sided tray cards and inserts. We also produce an MP3 downloadable version. We look for unique, professional quality, enduring audio works of interest to discriminating Savant listeners.

2. SBAP is fee-free. Savant does not charge pre-publication fees for copyright, UPC, bar codes, assembly, proofing, manufacturing, or publicity and marketing. Likewise, SBAP does not issue advances on submitted works.

3. SBAP is a royalty-paying publisher. Savant will execute a written contract and pay a royalty on net title sales to one principal recording artist. It is the principal's responsibility to divide the royalties between other members of a group and take care of any agent or other previously-incurred fees. Savant recording artists retain full financial rights to any "spin-offs," such as movie soundtracks.

4. SBAP was created by and for audio recording artists. The principal and Savant staff will, together, progress the proposed work through cover design and editing, polishing, proofing, publicity, marketing, sales and fulfillment. In return, we expect all members of the recording team to take a strong, proactive role in publicizing the individual or group name and CD title, as well as market and sell the CD. This includes doing specified emailings (we tell you when and how), participating in chats, maintaining a public recording artist or group website with blog, doing public appearances and recording artist/group/title release parties. If you don't plan to do the above, don't submit a CSP.

5. The contracted principal must provide a valid U. S. Social Security Number (SSN), U. S. Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). If you can't obtain one, we can't pay you royalties.

6. The contracted principal will be assigned a professional CD Production Representative ("rep"). The principal and rep work together as a team at no expense to the principal to move the work to final "perfect" publishable form and format. This can take up to six months. If you are not willing to work with a professional CD Production Rep, are not willing to accept any changes, or are not willing to adhere to Savant form and format, do not submit a CSP. Savant is NOT a self-publisher; do not submit a CSP if you are seeking self-publication "assistance."

7. SBAP provides professional layup and disc-face, front-and-back case and interior insert design free-of-charge. In general, principals are discouraged from creating their own covers, though Savant cover artists take into consideration all principal's suggestions.

8. Once approved and assembled, a proof is produced and sent to the principal for final approval, again, at no cost to the principal. This takes, on the average, one additional month. If you are not interested in carefully proofing your CD, do not submit a CSP. Once approved, Savant will not make additional changes.

9. SBAP designs and provides for each principal a two-year, tailored, Publicity and Marketing (P&M) plan at no charge to the principal. P&M's commonly include press releases, YouTube teasers, recording artist/title synopses and summaries, excerpts, CD review copies, recording artists and CD release parties, radio/TV appearances, podcasts, world-wide distribution, and publicity recommendations at no charge to the principal.  Savant recording artists and all members of the recording group are expected to respect P&M recommendations and make every effort to follow them in order to better publicize and market themselves and their work. If this doesn not appeal to you, do not submit a CSP.

10. Manufacturing is done on-demand. SBAP does not require the principal to purchase any minimum number of CDs. Instead, SBAP provides the principal with five complimentary publicity copies of the published work, and offers the principal the ability to purchase their work in lots of ten (10) CDs at 50% off the Suggested Retail Price (SRP) for personal or group consignment sales, sales at appearances general publicity and CD-signing events. This special price includes book-rate shipping anywhere within the USA including Hawaii and Alaska.

11. SBAP works are listed on and available for purchase under the "Savant Records" label at Savant Bookstores, Amazon.com, affiliated and feeder online book and CD sales channels, as well as at interested independent book and music stores throughout the world.  SBAP CDs are currently distributed worldwide through Savant Distribution, Amazon Extended Distribution and numerous sub-distributors.

12.  SBAP is headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, and is a U. S. publisher.  Royalties are subject to the tax laws of the United States of America.
